C.) into Palestine, where Hoshea, the last King of Israel, had revolted against his authority. 2 Kings XVII. The letter must have been written between 1704 and 1715. |

(The copies relate to the productions of Bengal and to the cultivation of the waste lands in Bengal, Bahar and Orissa). The letters relate to China trade and are written at various dates during five years of correspondence. That dated March 2nd, 1787, begins:-"On my return from China I had the very satisfactory honor of receiving your Lordship's favor of the 22nd April last...." That for 23rd Nov., 1785, begins:-"Being about to leave Calcutta in a few days to the Malabar Coast, Bombay & China I embrace the opportunity...." Accompanying the packet is a memorandum in his own hand written by Lord Macartney in 1785. The packet also contains the copy of a letter on the China trade dated Calcutta, 26th July, 1787, addressed to the Rt. Honble. Earl Cornwallis, K. G., Governor-in-Council. All foregoing in chronological order. |
