- This directory contains a listing of Asian history specialists affiliated with universities and research institutes in Japan. It does not include specialists in Japanese history, except those studying fields related to Japan's international relations in Asia. Each entry includes a brief profile, topics of specialization and major publications.
- The Directory was compiled by the former Centre for East Asian Studies, which wasclosed on 31 March 2003.

- This data base has been offered as a convenience way for users to become familiar with research trends in Asian history in Japan as of April 2002. The data has not been updated since that time.
